Thoughtful Driver

March 11, 2012

I was on the 3 Beacon Hill at the front of the bus on one of the disabled seats. An older gentlemen seated beside me got up early before his stop. With cane in hand he held onto the pole to steady himself. The bus driver asked him politely if he would like to sit, that there would be plenty of time for him to get up and disembark safely. The older man ignored the driver. When the old man got off the bus the driver explained that there was no rush, he could safely sit until at his stop before getting up and that he would wait for him to safely get off the bus. The old man was impolite and barked back at the driver. It made me realize that drivers put up with a lot even when they are kind, curtious and show genuine care toward the patron. I was impressed with the driver and when I got off at the end of the line I told him so. We have the most cutious drivers I’ve ever seen.

Great Clean way to get around!

March 10, 2012

I like taking transit. It’s an inexpensive way to get around town and its good for the environment. The drivers are very nice and the buses are generally on time and cleaned often.

Thank you BC Transit

Building sustainable communities and supporting green initiatives are important priorities for this government.

This means investing in transit, bicycle, and foot traffic infrastructure to make it safer, quicker, and easier to get around. Using these forms of transportation will not only help ease our carbon footprint but encourage active lifestyles. In Boundary-Similkameen, we have invested millions of dollars in support of those objectives.

B.C. Transit’s efforts to develop walking, cycling, and transit routes for each community are important for everyone in B.C. Their new transit story campaign will encourage public input and share best practices for creating green communities in B.C.

Rolling Village

Rolling Village by Tess Wixted

When I ride the bus I step into a world of community. There’s the bus driver who every morning greets my step aboard his coach with a smile and warm welcome to the stirring dawn. It’s the first conversation of my workdays and when he’s not there I miss him. I miss his hello, his a good Monday to you and his wish for me to have a very happy Valentine’s Day.

I relish the climb to the upper level of our grand double-decker bus and I settle into my favourite seat, left side, just behind the stairs. My fellow travellers come and go, some with familiarity and an unspoken nod to our shared experience in this journey. Others join us for a solo quest towards a new job, an anxious trip to the doctor, a ride to catch the perfect wave with surfboard in tow.

My handyDART story

February 29, 2012

Just a note to say “Thank-you.”

I recently had to have a knee replacement operation, and if that wasn’t enough stress, I hadn’t a way to R.I. for physio, as I couldn’t drive.

From the phone staff, to the drivers, I was treated so very well. Prompt, polite, and professional staff took care of me and I had no stress.

My new knee exceeds my expectations, thanks, in part, to handyDART.
